Objective $1 million in donations for the 9th edition of the 24h of Tremblant MONTREAL, Nov. 4 /CNW Telbec/ - There was excitement in the air as the details of the ninth edition of the now classic 24h of Tremblant were unveiled today in the presence of many well-known personalities, ambassadors and guests of honor. The 24h of Tremblant is a major happening that brings together sport, culture and philanthropy.
The organizers aim to raise more than a million dollars to donate to various charitable foundations such as the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau, the Tremblant Foundation as well as the Ottawa Sens Foundation. This year's cultural program features Ariane Moffat, Kevin Parent, DJ Champion & the G-Strings, Izia, Dubmatique, Boom Desjardins, Yann Perreau and many others.
With about a month to go, alight with enthusiasm, the organizing committee appealed to the general public, to skiing and snowboarding fans and to businesses by inviting them to register and put teams together. "Our objective is to recruit 225 teams and surpass the million dollars in funds raised last year. As of now, we already have 150 teams registered, with up to $200 000 in on-line donations.
We have put together an innovative promotional fundraising campaign with known comedians; we have a recruited a new ambassador to complete the existing team; the musical program is explosive and everything is lined up for us to attain our ambitious objective.
We are very enthusiastic and are confident that, with the help of our wonderful sponsors Volkswagen & TELUS and the participants that do so much to raise money, our winter festival will be a success. Because on top of the performance, the real competition of this event is to raise as much money as possible for the sick and unprivileged children," explains Simon St-Arnaud, director of the event.
The team Les Cybèles managed to raise the largest amount of money last year with an impressive $46,842. The call is out for whoever intends to do better this year!
A cultural happening in Tremblant village.
While the mountain has skiers hurtling down its slopes, the village will be lively, as well, with the party spirit taking over for three whole days. There'll be theme stalls and a program brimming with activities and concerts indoors and out. The program will start with a big concert at the summit of the mountain with DJ Champion and many other artists. This concert will be broadcast live on the web. On Saturday night, Yann Perreau, winner of a Felix Award, will take the stage and finally, Ariane Moffat will close the event on Sunday at noon.
Kevin Parent, DJ Champion & the G-Strings, Izia & Dubmatique will see to it that more than 1500 participants and some 25,000 visitors participate in the party and contribute in their own way.
The new star of the 24h
The organizers will again be supported by perennial event ambassadors Benoit Gagnon, Philippe Fehmiu and Mélanie Turgeon, as well as by panoply of cultural and sports personalities moved to action by the cause of children. A new ambassador of the 24h of Tremblant has been added to the team this year, none other than Anne-Marie Wittenshaw.
Beneficiaries offer highly promising projects :
The Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau was created in 1990 and its mission is to build a facility where children with cancer can receive treatment and where research aimed at finding a cure for the disease can be carried out. It aims to finance the creation and development of the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau of the CHU Sainte-Justine. The Fondation believes that children with cancer have a right to the best care and treatment available and hopes that all these children can one day say: "When I grow up, I'll be cured!" Thanks to the 24h and other fundraisers, The Tremblant Foundation annually donates over $200,000 to underprivileged children of the MRC-Laurentians region. And finally the Ottawa Sens Foundation will support more than 2,500 children and youth receiving treatment or participating in programs offered by Candlelighters, project s.t.e.p., Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario and Roger's House.
Partners who get involved
The success of the 24h of Tremblant is largely attributable to the involvement of our partners. The 24h of Tremblant is powered by Volkswagen in collaboration with TELUS.
Volkswagen is proud to power the 24h of Tremblant. Again this year, its goal is to raise the greatest possible amount of money to help children through the Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau.
TELUS, which has been a partner in the 24h event for five years, has to this point donated $250,000 to the 24h of Tremblant to benefit children who are ill or in remissionl children. For the 2009 edition, all participants and spectators are invited to visit the TELUS zone and make a donation to give a night light to the Fondation Centre de cancérologie Charles-Bruneau. The little lights, personalized by drawings done by well-known Québec personalities such as Alexandre Despatie, will provide some comfort in the children's rooms.
Coca-Cola, Van Houtte, Snickers, Imprimerie L'Artographe, Columbia, Bula & Swiss International Airlines, are also proud partners in the event.
The NRJ Volskwagen walk-a-thon with Mitsou, Benoit Gagnon, Eric Salvail, Jean-François Baril, Pierre Pagé et Dominic et Martin.
The NRJ Volkswagen walk-a-thon, from Montreal to Tremblant, starts in front of the NRJ studios in Montreal on Dec.10th at noon, and ends at the bottom of the ski runs, 24 hours later. A total of 142.9 kilometres of walking! New this year: the radio announcers and hosts invite 24 teams of four listeners to join in the walk-a-thon with them. The aim is to raise $48,000. Last year, radio personalities walked the same distance for 24 hours, raising more than $18,000! For the first time this year, Volkswagen will be a partner in this walk for children and will contribute with pride to this worthy cause.
