Tremblant - Summer Activites

A triple whammy will headline a busy summer at Mont Tremblant.

Cajun musician Zachary Richard will top the bill for the 17th annual Tremblant International Blues Festival, a 10-day music happening to be held at the slopeside village July 9-18.

"What is hard for us now in Louisiana is to have a normal life," Richard said at the announcement of his appearance at Tremblant. He was referring to the impact of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. "To make music, to reach people and celebrate, all this gives me pleasure at this difficult time."

About 250 musicians -including Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Tab Benoit, Tommy Castro, Matt Schofield and Quebec stars Carl Tremblay, Jim Zeller, Jimmy James, Paul Deslauriers and Dawn Tyler Watson -will perform roughly 12 shows daily on outdoor stages and at about eight bars and bistros. And it's almost all free, except for a cover charge at a few bars for indoor shows. "Almost everywhere you go, there will be someone playin' and singin' the blues," said Catherine Lacasse, Tremblant's public-relations supervisor.

A treat for guests at most of Tremblant's slopeside lodging is a the scenic ride up the mountain on the gondola and entrance to daily concerts from 5 a 7 at the summit. Here, the Blues Fest blends music with views of Tremblant's forests, lakes and mountains.

Over at Le Circuit Mont Tremblant, the rubber will hit the road again, but, in September, the roar of engines will be replaced by the sound of bicycle tires.
Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong will lead not one, but two, fund-raisers, one a new event.

Armstrong will be the guest of honor and lead rider at the third annual Cedars Tour de Lance, a 100-kilometre benefit ride on Sept. 11 for the Cedars Cancer Institute along a 100-kilometre route through villages like Mont Tremblant, La Conception, Brebeuf, Arundel and St. Jovite.

Armstrong also will inaugurate the first edition of Tremblant's 24h of Cycling by riding the opening lap and leading about 1,000 cyclists at Le Circuit, the motor-racing track. The new event, Sept. 10-12, uses the formula of Tremblant's 24h of skiing, during which teams take to the slopes in all-day, all-night relays.

"It's not a race, it's a cause," said O'Donnell ."This will be a great family event, with nonstop entertainment for visitors and the opportunity for children and grown-ups to raise funds for worthy causes."

The goal is to raise a total of $500,000 for the 24h of Tremblant Foundation, which supports children's causes, and the Cedars Cancer Institute.

Car racing still dominates the summer schedule at Le Circuit.Former Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal is organizing the Legends of Motorsport, July 9-11, which will showcase vintage cars from Grand Prix and Can-Am events and cool wheels from the Fabulous '50s. Ferrari will be the theme car of the Legends event and Gilles Villeneuve's Formula I Ferrari will be on the track.
